Santa Rosa City Council Awards Flamingo Conference Resort & Spa 2010 Water conservation award

SANTA ROSA, Calif., May 7, 2010 – The historic Flamingo Conference Resort & Spa, was the only accommodation and hospitality business to be recognized by the Santa Rosa City Council with an annual Water Conservation Award at their May 4 meeting. The Flamingo saved 397,000 gallons of water primarily by installing a new laundry system. Flamingo Chief Engineer Jim O’Toole and his staff led the effort, with the support of the resort’s management staff, to bring about more efficient water management at the pool, health club, spa and as part of the overall landscaping as well. The laundry system has an ozone device that also reduced the use of cleaning supplies, hot water usage and provides shorter drying times that save on natural gas.
     “We believe it’s our responsibility as members of the business and tourism community and as individuals, to choose the environmentally wise choice whenever possible, even if it costs a little more or takes a little more time,” said Floriann Bynum, General Manager. “We know it’s a business decision that will save the resort money long-term and let us do our part to save the planet. With that in mind, the Flamingo management has asked each employee to think of ways they can be more environmentally productive and we are all thrilled with this recognition of our efforts.”
     The Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa’s owner and management have embraced ecologically-sound green practices throughout the resort and this commitment played a sizable role in the recent four-million dollar renovation. Low E windows, energy efficient lighting and appliances, insulation and weather stripping, and water-saving toilets, shower heads and faucets were installed to increase energy efficiency and to lower the Flamingo’s carbon footprint.
     They use durable dishes, cups, glasses, mugs, tableware, and serving pieces. Food containers are sugar cane and corn biodegradable products. The food and beverage staff has been growing the number of local food suppliers to reduce transportation energy cost and to provide fresher better products to their guests.

Ehret Family Winery is the creation of a husband and wife team, Pierre Ehret
and Susan Robertson. The property, based in Calistoga at the northern end of
famed Napa Valley, hand crafts small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet
Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and a red Meritage blend from the estate's
Bavarian Lion Vineyards, located in the famous AVA, Knights Valley, just north

Pierre Ehret is the owner of Sonoma
County's renowned Flamingo Resort Hotel and Conference Center in Santa Rosa,
